Is Adblock VPN a real VPN on Mac?

It is a local DNS filter, not a remote VPN. It does not connect to an Adblock VPN server, encrypt traffic through our infrastructure, or hide your IP address.

Download the DMG from this page, open it, and drag Adblock VPN to Applications. Open the app from Applications. The first time you turn the filter on, macOS asks for administrator access.

Why does macOS ask for an administrator password?

The local DNS filter needs to listen on port 53 and set system DNS. That requires administrator access on macOS. The prompt is expected. Canceling it leaves the filter off.
